Paul received a call the same day to say that he had won his appeal and he was awarded the highest rate of Personal Independence Payment
Paul from Caerphilly needed our help appealing a Department of Work and Pensions’ decision not to award him Personal Independence Payment. He is 18 and lives at home with his parents. His mother Christine had helped with his application and with the Mandatory Consideration. Paul and Christine came to us for help to challenge the decision to award him zero points for his health conditions.
A date had been set for the tribunal and they wanted to find out more about the process and what was expected of them.
Our adviser was able to explain the role of those involved with a tribunal. He outlined what supporting evidence that they needed to support Paul’s application and how to submit the court papers.
This gave Christine the confidence to support Paul at the Tribunal and ensure his voice was heard.
Paul received a call the same day to say that he had won his appeal and he was awarded the highest rate of Personal Independence Payment, increasing his income by £172 a week. He was also awarded a backdated payment of £6,746.
