"I can now make sure that I can get my children new school uniforms and birthday presents..."

We have helped a woman from Ebbw Vale challenge a benefits decision and secure a £10,000 back payment for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

Mother of one Tilly (not her real name) applied for PIP as she has Bipolar and Fibromyalgia. The 34-year-old was awarded the Standard Rate for the mobility component but believed she was entitled to the Daily Living component.

Specialist Welfare Benefits adviser Sarah said she was able to build a good rapport and relationship of trust with Tilly, by listening to her and understanding her needs.

Sarah said: “This helped me gather appropriate evidence to support her challenge at Tribunal. I prepared a statement on her behalf, updating the tribunal as to new developments. Her daughter had been recognised as an official carer and we identified that this would be relevant and useful. The DWP final decision maker considered the appeal prior to the hearing and changed their decision. Tilly was given a five year award with Enhanced Rates for both Daily Living and Mobility, a backdated award of £10,500 and is £529.80 better off each month.”

Tilly said: “Thank you so much. I would have given up if it wasn’t for you. I can now make sure I can get my children new school uniforms and birthday presents that I wouldn’t have been able to do before.”
