Donald was given full energy advice to help him save on his bills and we identified that he had been missing out on certain benefits.
Age Cymru referred Donald to us for a fuel voucher. He is 57, lives alone in Caerphilly and has a number of health conditions. He has been struggling to keep on top of his fuel payments and had no credit on his gas meter and had just £3 left on his electricity.
Donald was extremely distressed about the fact he was struggling to manage his money. Our adviser carried out a quick benefit check to establish if she could increase his income. She discovered that Donald was not receiving the Severe Disability Premium of Employment and Support Allowance or the Discretionary Housing Payment for his additional bedroom.
With her help Donald was able to apply for both benefits. He was given two fuel vouchers totalling £97.
