With our support, Jordan's weekly income has increased from £86 per week to £156 per week, making him better off by around £70 a week.
Jordan has a range of long-term sensory, mental and physical health conditions and has been receiving Children’s Disability Living Allowance (DLA). He is 16 and from Caerphilly. He had been awarded a middle rate for living and the lower rate for mobility, a total of £86 per week.
When a child turns 16, they need to apply for Personal Independence Payment. Jordan and his mother Beth asked for our help to fill in the PIP ‘How Your Disability Affects You’ form.
Our adviser asked Jordan to describe how his disability affects him and helped him to write down examples of the issues he faces and the support he needs to remain independent. She also outlined what medical evidence would be needed to support his application and what to expect at the medical assessment.
Jordan had two telephone assessments and recently found out that he had been awarded the enhanced rates for the daily living and the mobility elements of PIP, until 2030.
With our support, Jordan and his mother were given the knowledge and confidence to fully illustrate the impact his conditions have on him to support his application. His weekly income has increased from £86 per week to £156 per week, making him better off by around £70 a week.
