"Without your support I would have given up and never finished my PIP application. You have helped put me on the path to independence."

33 year old Ryan has ADHD, Aspergers, Anxiety and Depression. He had been turned down for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) at both the initial claim and then the Mandatory Reconsideration stage.

Ryan received intensive support as a child which he found overwhelming so has struggled to engage with support services and professionals as an adult. This meant Ryan did not have the clinical evidence to support his claim.

Our adviser Sarah worked with Ryan to help him explain that he was struggling to manage his health conditions and his reasons for being reluctant to work with other agencies.

She was able to prepare written statements which would help the Tribunal panel fully appreciate how his illness impacts his daily life.

Due to his mental health issues he struggled to fully illustrate on paper and in-person how his conditions affect his daily life. The situation was extremely overwhelming for him but she persevered and prepared him for the hearing.

Ryan’s appeal was successful and he was awarded the enhanced rate of the Daily Living component of £92 per week and received a back payment of more than £6,000.

He said: “Without your support I would have given up and never finished my PIP application. You have helped put me on a path to independence thanks to this financial support.  Even the small things like supporting me with kind and calming words and statistics on previous applications really gave me the confidence I needed to continue and even go to the appeal. You were so patient and understanding. I really felt you were only there for my benefit.”
