Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis Is Joining Our December Cost of Living Briefing

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis is our guest speaker at the December cost-of-living briefing.

Citizens Advice cost-of-living briefings have been running since July 2022. Each month, we host a virtual one hour briefing where our Chief Data Analyst, Tom MacInnes gives an overview of the latest data dashboard and trends and our Chief Executive, Clare Moriarty gives her key remarks on the findings and related policy asks.

Each month we have a high-profile guest speaker to give their thoughts on the data and wider trends that they’re seeing. We have a theme or a specific area of focus for each briefing.

This month’s theme is when advice is not enough – the rising problem of negative budgets.

Part of Martin’s focus will be the upcoming festive season and the exceptionally high energy bills people will face throughout the winter. We’re already seeing more people than ever before coming to us for crisis support, and with typical energy bills nearly double what they were before the crisis began; it’s set to be another challenging winter for many.

We’ll be sharing our unique data which shows the increasing numbers of people in a negative budget, unable to cover daily essential living costs with their income.

We will also examine the impact of the recent Autumn Statement on the people we help. Cutting through the noise and looking at our unique data to draw real conclusions on what the Chancellors decisions mean for people living on empty.

The Citizens Advice cost-of-living briefing webinar is taking place on Thursday 14th December, 2pm – 3pm.
