A volunteer trustee who has supported the Citizens Advice service for almost 40 years has been recognised at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Citizens Advice Caerphilly Blaenau Gwent’s (CACBG) Deputy Chair Mostyn Davies, a former Trading Standards Officer for Caerphilly Council, won the Trustee Volunteer category of the Volunteer Achievement Awards 2023, held at Blackwood Miner’s Institute.
He was just one of the Volunteers from across the Caerphilly county borough who have been recognised at the 2023 Volunteer Achievement Awards, held at Blackwood Miners’ Institute. Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) organise the award ceremony to honour volunteers who make a real difference in their local community.
Mostyn initially joined the Caerphilly Citizens Advice Bureau’s (CAB) management committee during the miner’s strike in 1984, when he was in his early 20s and had just begun working as a Trading Standards Officer. Since then he has offered unwavering support to the Citizens Advice services in the boroughs of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent.
In 1999 Mostyn became part of the Steering Committee that brought together the Management Committees of the CABs in Caerphilly, Bargoed, Blackwood and Risca. That committee oversaw the merging of the four independent CABs into a single organisation covering the whole of the counties of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent.
CACBG Chief Executive Simon Ellington said:
“With his unstinting support and guidance, we have grown from an organisation with a handful of staff, to an employer of more than 200 staff. His length of service and level of engagement has given him an unparalleled knowledge and understanding of the Citizens Advice service and the needs of the people that we help.”
“Mostyn has worked over many years to ensure that the communities of Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent have had continued access to high quality information, advice and support from their local Citizens Advice service.”
