“I feel like a massive weight has been lifted from my shoulders regarding my debts.”
Carl lives in Caerphilly with his parents. He needed a review of his welfare benefits entitlement and support with debts.
Carl was having a mental health crisis when he met with our adviser for help. He explained that he was unable to work and was receiving the Limited Capability for Work Related Activity element of Universal Credit.
Our adviser explained that he could be entitled to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and discussed the eligibility criteria and how to make a claim. She then went on to discuss his debts with him.
As he was receiving care for his mental health, Carl was told that he could be placed into Breathing Space. The debt respite scheme gives a person in debt a pause in enforcement action from their creditors for as long as they are receiving crisis treatment. The moratorium freezes any interest and enforcement action to allow them time to recover and address their debts.
Carl said that he was confident to request the PIP forms from the DWP and agreed to be placed into Breathing Space. This is giving him the time to work with our specialist debt team and find the best solution for his circumstances.
With our adviser’s support, Carl was able to open letters from his creditors that he had struggled to deal with. He is receiving ongoing support with his debts which has had a positive impact on his recovery.
