With our help, Steve is receiving all the financial assistance he needs to live an independent life.

Steve is 42 and lives with his parents in Tredegar. He has Crohn’s Disease and other bowel problems, as well as anxiety caused by his long term physical conditions.

He had been turned down for Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and needed advice on challenging the decision to award him just two points.

He was aware that he could request a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR) and advice on how to go about it. Steve had made attempts to request an extension to submit the MR but became overwhelmed on the phone to the DWP.

Our adviser helped him with the MR forms and submitted them on his behalf. Again his application was turned down and he asked us for help with appeal at a tribunal.

Steve said that he had filled the PIP forms himself and was unable to fully illustrate how his health conditions impact his daily life. Another appointment was made with the adviser and he was asked to obtain copies of his GP records to support the application.

Using the GP records and information provided by Steve, our adviser helped him fill in all the necessary forms, explaining in detail how his health impacts him daily.

He was given a date to attend an appeal in person but was extremely anxious about attending alone. Our adviser recommended that he ring and explain that he needed someone to attend with him due to his anxiety. His request was accommodated and he received notification that his appeal had been successful.

With our advice Steve was able to navigate the complex Mandatory Consideration and Tribunal process and successfully challenge the unfair decision. This means he is receiving all the financial assistance he needs to live an independent life.
