With our support Iris was awarded the higher rate of Attendance Allowance and became eligible for Pension Credit.

Iris from Blackwood is 68. She is retired and wanted advice about Attendance Allowance.

She had been previously turned down for the benefit so dropped into one of our community advice sessions for help. We made Iris a follow-up appointment to discuss the matter in more detail.

She informed our adviser that she has a number of long term physical conditions including issues with her knees, a heart problem and she suffers from vertigo. She said her condition had deteriorated since the first application and she was receiving care from her daughter.

Our adviser provided details about the qualifying criteria for Attendance Allowance and using the information Iris provided about how her health issues impact her daily living, filled in the form with her. The form was posted out for Iris to sign and submit herself.

Her application was successful. With our support she was awarded the higher rate of Attendance Allowance which is £101 a week. As a result of this award, she also became eligible for Pension Credits, to top up her weekly income.
