Gordon was awarded Attendance Allowance which has seen the couple’s household income increase by £101 a week, the equivalent of £5,291 a year.

Susan is retired and from Blaenau Gwent. Susan was referred to us for support to find out what health benefits her husband Gordon might be entitled to as he has a heart condition.

The couple own their own home and receive a state and private pension. Our adviser was able to carry out a benefit check and identified that Gordon might be entitled to Attendance Allowance. Susan was acting on Gordon’s behalf and needed help to apply so an appointment was made to discuss their circumstances and complete the form.

Our adviser told Susan to request the Attendance Allowance form before the appointment, as any claim would be backdated to the time of the forms being requested.

At the next meeting our adviser helped Susan with the digital forms. She emailed them to her to print off, have Gordon sign them and then return to the Department of Work and Pensions.

With our support, Gordon was awarded Attendance Allowance which has seen the couple’s household income increase by £101 a week, the equivalent of £5,291 a year. They also received a back dated payment of £471.
